---------------------------------------------
1.1 - What is a
Blackboard Organization?
A Blackboard Organization
is just like a regular Blackboard course, only it is not associated with
an actual JMU class and is not tied to a particular semester. Any sanctioned
JMU Organization or group can have a
Blackboard Organization created in order to have threaded online
discussions, post documents and share files. Bb Orgs are also often used
as online meeting places for departmental faculty.
1.2 - How is an
Organization different from a class?
A Blackboard Organization
is functionally exactly the same as a Blackboard course. However, users
are not automatically enrolled as with a class. Blackboard organizations require a manager to take care of user management.
1.3 - How do I create an
Organization?
To create an Organization,
you must fill out an online request form at
http://ddls.jmu.edu/accounts.
You'll be asked to provide the organization's name. Student clubs must
provide the name of their faculty sponsor.
1.4 - How are users
enrolled in my Organization?
Once your request for an
organization has been processed, you will be notified via email. The
organization's manager can enroll users by going to the Control Panel on
Blackboard and under User Management, choosing the Enroll User option.
Alternatively, you can fill out an online request form at
http://ddls.jmu.edu/accounts
and select Enroll Members in an Organization. You'll have to provide the
JMU Eid of each person to enroll in the organization. You can also ask
for additional managers for the organization.
1.5 - How do I unenroll
users from my Organization?
From the Organization's
Control Panel, choose the Remove Users option.
1.6 - How can I enroll
someone who is not a member of the JMU community?
Users who are not members
of the JMU community can be granted an account under certain
circumstances with prior approval. However, the Organization itself must
be JMU-centric and the majority of users must be members of the JMU
community. Please use the
contact page
to inquire about getting an account for someone not part of the JMU
community.
1.7 - Who can have a
Blackboard Organization?
Any sanctioned JMU
Organization or group can have a Blackboard Organization created in
order to have threaded online discussions, post documents and share
files. Bb Organizations are also often used as online meeting places for
departmental faculty and committees.
